You are not who you appear to be on paper.
They don’t know you from what they see on paper.
The yardstick used to measure you is faulty and always has been.
Don’t believe what they say about you because only you know who you are.
Your experiences, knowledge, joys, sorrows, wins and losses are entirely yours. They’re virtually impossible to communicate on paper.
Despite what they say, you have to—you must!—keep trying. There’s no other path forward.
If you receive a no, great! Move on until you get a yes. At least you know where you stand on their paper.
Take time to feel discouraged but don’t wallow in it. The only opinion that matters is yours.
And when you win, be graceful. Don’t be boisterous or haughty.
Make them feel appreciated because you’ll be grateful for what they have shown you.
The future is yours. You and only you can tell your story despite what they want you to believe.
When they encounter you again, you’ll be so much more than what’s on their paper.
Because it will be what’s on your paper that they’ll wish they had.
